MOCA Update

New CEO Young: Seeing Past the MOCA
The L.A. Times article posted up by Gary Friedman on the CULTURE MONSTER blog focuses on the latest news on the MOCA's financial situation. The posting informs us on the unfortunate partnership with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where the MOCA lost it's rights as it's own entity and turning over into the private sector. Friedman is a little less biased than myself in this situation, however, the facts laid out make the MOCA's deal with Eli Broad seem that there will be major changes made within the administrative powers within the museum. The artistic directions will most definitely take a different route, as Charles Young, the chancellor emeritus of UCLA, has goals in changing the future financial positions for the MOCA. To say that this is a positive stepping stone for the MOCA is an overstatement. Within this new association comes both the positive and the negative. Expect nothing more and nothing less. Any expectations will make this an experience of all sorts.

Economy casts shadow over Rose Parade but doesn't squelch festive spirit
Interesting take on the Rose Parade of 2009 by Cara Mia DiMassa and Jessica Garrison of L.A. Times. The Rose Parade of Pasadena, CA is used to a sworming and touristic atmosphere during the holiday season. However, with the nation's recession and having only one visiting college football team for the famous Rose Bowl game held on New Year's day, many of the local businesses were faced with another drop in sales for this festive time. DiMassa and Garrison focus on the positivey held amongst the crowds despite the financial situations during this otherwise festive time. Keep up the spirit people.
